Grass

All of our cattle are finished solely on grass. They eat grass during the summer and silage (dried grass) during the winter. We occasionally add a few apples or other treats to make them smile :)

We are committed to raising our cattle on a purely grass diet for a number of reasons:-

1) It ensures that the meat we produce tastes delicious, and is an extremely healthy thing for you to eat, as part of a balanced diet.

2) It's best for the environment, and helps to support the natural ecosystem on our farm.

3) These cattle have traditionally thrived on a pure grass diet, and we believe in continuing that great tradition.

Quality Red Meat

Beef is high in protein, and grass-fed beef is higher in Omgea-3 and CLA fatty acids than grain-fed beef, which is what you can buy in the supermarket.

We practise what we preach, eating our own beef regularly as part of a healthy, balanced diet, providing nutrients (including iron, Vitamin B12 and Selenium), beneficial fatty acids and lots of protein, which are all essential for keeping us healthy.

Grass-fed beef has been shown, in numerous scientific studies, to contain more antioxidants and a broader spectrum of healthy fats than grain-fed beef.

Grass-fed beef is higher in Omega-3 fatty acids, which are linked to a healthy heart. CLA is thought to reduce heart disease and cancer risks.

The Environment

These days, there is a lot of concern about the amount of greenhouse gases which cattle produce, thus contributing to global warming and climate change. We love our planet just as much as you do, and we are certainly not on a quest to destroy the planet through cow flatulence!

It is true that cattle produce a lot of methane, however, grass traps greenhouse gases (like most other plants), and converts carbon dioxide to the oxygen we breathe through photosynthesis. Our grass-fed cattle are living off the natural environment in the way that it has always been used, because of the cattle, we nurture over 500 acres of grass-land, all of which is carefully gardened by the cattle themselves. Our farm supports a thriving ecosystem of wild animals, insects and wild plant-life, and the cattle are a natural element of that ecosystem - so we are proud to farm Red Ruby Devons :)
